Janet was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky in the heart of the Bluegrass Region. She received a scholarship to play Division I tennis for Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated magnum cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Administration. After graduation she joined AmeriCorp, Athletes in Service, giving her the opportunity to tutor and mentor youth and conduct workshops to educate students, teachers, and administrators on human equality issues in our society.
In 2004 Janet received a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Kentucky, while working for the Department of Athletics as an Academic Advisor for student-athletes. After receiving her graduate degree Janet moved to Pinehurst, NC. The beauty of the area and her insatiable desire to assist others led Janet toward a career in real estate. She was a Realtor in Pinehurst for just over 3 years.
Janet and her husband, Jason, moved to a historic neighborhood on the North Side of Pittsburgh in October of 2007. Jason is a graduate of Duquesne University where he was employed as thier Assistant Basketball Coach. Pittsburgh will always be a special city for Janet and Jason since it was the birthplace of their two sons, Langston and Emmet.
The Byrd Family moved to Wilmington in 2013 for Jason to start a new career with Live Oak Bank. Janet brings over 10 years of real estate experience to the Lanier Property Group and a wealth of knowledge after working in two different real estate markets. She has an appreciation for historic homes and the desire to educate her clients about the real estate process.
In addition to her work, Janet loves playing tennis, golf and enjoying time outside with her family.
