Kim Addelman Funds a Home for Magdalena in Bolivia

Kim has helped hundreds of families sell and purchase homes through out Western, New York since 1995. Helping others realize a dream and taking the time to give back to her community is something Kim has made a point of doing all of her life....It is what inspires her. Recently, Kim gave back in a huge way by funding a complete home in Bolivia for Magdalena.

Location: The community of Mizque, Bolivia

Today is move in day for the Sanabria family from New Story on Vimeo.

A message from our Build Partner:

"Very recently, Blanca and her daughter Nelva moved to a nearby city, Cochabamba, then to Spain, suddenly after hearing about a greater economic opportunity.

Our local partner identified tremendous need from Blanca's relative, Magdalena Sanabria. At age 42, Magdalena is a single-mother with 7 children, 5 of which attend school and 2 daughters, who are in the picture attached, stay at home with Magdalena. Her husband left her about 7 years ago, leaving her with great responsibilities of taking care of and raising her children alone. She suffers from anxiety and her hands often shake involuntarily while she speaks.

Our on-ground project manager will be traveling to Mizque this weekend to collect more information including a survey of Magdalena's family. As soon as we receive those materials next week, we will forward you the information. Blanca and Nelva's emigration to Spain is news to us as well as our partner was planning to inform us in a future update. We apologize for the delay and promise that we are committed to providing you all the details as soon as possible."

Meet Magdalena

At age 42, Magdalena is a single-mother with 7 children, 2 of which suffers from chagas disease. Her husband left her about 7 years ago, leaving her with great responsibilities of taking care of and raising her children alone. She suffers from anxiety and her hands often shake involuntarily while she speaks. Her monthly income is about USD$110. Each morning she begins her day at 6am to cook for her whole family and get her kids ready for school. When she is not working early in the morning, she walks her kids all the way to school. At night before returning home, she buys firewood to prepare for cooking the next day.

With a living area, 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, electricity, access to clean water, and indoor flushing toilets and showers, they finally have the space and sanitary conditions to focus their energy on building their lives rather than struggling to survive. Thanks to Kim's generosity, this family now lives in a thriving community.

Blanca and her daughter live in Bolivia. Blanca is a hard working, single mother to Nelva, a shy 12 year old girl. The pair has lived in a single, dark rented room for 12 years with a thatched roof and damp walls made of adobe. Every day, Blanca works as a farmer in the fields from 4 am until 5 pm, and then spends the rest of her evening washing laundry for extra income. Nelva walks over 40 minutes each day to get to school, and waits alone in their room at night for her mother to come home.

Blanca is sick with a disease called Chagas, which is common in damp environments and weakens the heart and central nervous system. The conditions they live in make her disease worse, and make the chances of Nelva contracting the disease dangerously high. However, with a new home the pair will have access to clean water and decent living conditions that will greatly improve their lives. Thanks to our member Kim Addelman, Blanca and Nelva will finally have a safe, clean place to call home.
