A Day in the Life: Distinctive Atlanta Homes Build Day

Distinctive Atlanta Homes is on track to continue their pledge to help provide homes to families in need in the Atlanta area through Giveback Homes build projects and their non-profit partners. On Saturday, March 11th, 2017, the Distinctive Atlanta Homes team came out to help build their third home in Atlanta with Habitat for Humanity, all to benefit Mr. and Mrs. Maddox and their 12-year-old son. Below is a recap of their day, written by Kelly Vescio, the Digital Marketing Specialist for Distinctive Atlanta Homes.

Saturday, March 11th, 2017 – A Home for Monica & Walter

After developing a connection with Giveback Homes in 2016, our team collectively committed to volunteer for four Build Days in 2017. Saturday, March 11th was our first Build Day of the year. We were blessed with beautiful blue skies and a comfortable 60-degree temperature.

Upon our arrival, we were met with a bubbly woman at the “check in” table whom we quickly discovered was the future homeowner! Monica was so gracious for our dedication to helping build her and her husband, Walter’s, new home and we were anxious to learn what our responsibilities would be for the day.

We began with a light breakfast, then gathered around the porch where Habitat foreman Rachel relayed the scope of work. After reviewing safety precautions and delegating responsibilities, the radio was tuned to classic rock and we were on our way!

As with any Build Day, there are a variety of tasks to be completed which provides a great opportunity to try something new, or perfect what you already know. Our team members, along with spouses, friends, family members and clients, affixed baseboards, caulked, built front porch railings, laid shingles, hung soffit, and painted sections of the interior and exterior of the home. Each Build Day presents new takeaways. There are a multitude of reasons why each of us participate in these rewarding experiences – the most rewarding of all, being able to work side by side with the impending homeowners and taking pride in helping to build their future as a team.

Being a part of the Giveback Homes family has been gratifying and humbling. What’s better, is that we are able to share these experiences with our spouses, friends, family members and clients. To give much is to receive much, and being on our team means to cultivate teamwork via volunteer opportunities.

When we first began our relationship with Giveback Homes and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, we figured that we’d have a few build days here and there, and donate monetarily to assist families looking to buy a home and better their lives.

What we didn’t know is how helping others would actually help us. We’re a stronger team when we give of ourselves, and we have a ton of fun with our “work family”.

We’re passionate about “home”. No matter the budget, no matter the area, we want to help as many people as possible feel proud to own a house and make it a home. You can feel great about buying or selling your real estate with Distinctive Atlanta Homes, knowing your transaction has helped countless families achieve their own dream of home ownership, as well.
