This might sound cliché, but I’ve always loved real estate.  I moved to Boston right out of college and fell in love with the history and unique architecture in the city.  The brownstones in the Back Bay, hidden patios in Beacon Hill, old Victorians and sleek modern high luxury high rises. So a combination of that, being my own boss and getting out and meeting new people got me interested in real estate.  I’ve been fortunate to meet some really fun interesting people along the way.

The biggest lesson I have learned since becoming a Realtor is no matter how hard you try you can’t please everyone.

Buying and selling real estate can be emotional for all parties - so try and keep a level head.  It helps to grow a thick skin (something I probably still need to work on).

What’s the secret to exceeding $10 million in sales?

I’ve had a few years where I exceeded $10 million in sales, and in those years I took very little time off. I worked a little harder and began stepping outside my comfort zone when approaching new or prospective clients. The biggest change was when I started treating my business as a business. I created a business plan, monthly marketing calendars with set specific monthly goals. I tracked where my leads came from, how much money I was spending on marketing and advertising and cut spending on areas that weren’t giving me a return on my investment. I also utilized the free platforms at my disposal (social media, Zillow etc.) and grew my online presence and manage those daily.

What marketing or advertising were you doing?

I didn’t pay for ads at all that year. It’s not something that has worked for me in the past. I'm very fortunate that most of my business comes from referrals and repeat clients, keeping up those connections and providing a level of service that keeps those referrals coming in is really important. I did do a lot of marketing through social media and occasionally I'll boost posts on Facebook and Instagram, along with customized eFlyers.

What do you think is the key to having a successful year?

Work hard, give back and also take a little time for yourself.  We wear a lot of hats in this business and sometimes it can be overwhelming.

What made you join Giveback Homes?

I have always been involved with nonprofits - my first job out of college was working (and volunteering) at Big Brothers Big Sisters here in Boston. I loved that Giveback Homes would allow me to help families both locally in the US, but also allowed me to support building homes for families abroad.
