Life-Saving Water Filters Delivered to Bolivia

July 14th, 2019

Thanks to your donations and our partnership with Waves for Water, we were able to help provide safe, clean drinking water to an indigenous community in Bolivia.

Access to drinking water in rural areas is a challenge in Bolivia. At 14,000 feet, La Paz is known as "the city that touches the clouds" and the highest metropolis in the world. Even higher, is the community of Botijlaca, where the main source of water is a contaminated river. Thanks to the filters they received, their relationship with this vital resource will be less sacrificed and more practical.

The filters are capable of eliminating 99.9% of biological contamination, which includes bacteria and parasites that cause salmonella, cholera, E.coli, among other diseases.

“We have water from the battery, but sometimes it dries up and we have to collect from the river and that is not very good for us even though we boil it. Now we drink purified water with the filter, without needing anything,” says Silveria Quispe, from the Botijlaca community in Comanche.
