Giveback Homes Heads Back To Nicaragua - Meet Elba Paramo

Update: December 12th, 2014

Elba’s dream was to own a home with a real floor and a front door so her children could sleep in safety and comfort. Thanks to the passion of Giveback Homes Members and our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Nicaragua, that dream became a reality.

The Giveback Homes team had the pleasure of leading five real estate agents on a journey to help build a home for Elba and her three beautiful children. Giveback Homes Members David, Chad, Sarah, Susan and Mark are all part of a Real Estate mastermind group in Las Vegas. Shortly after joining Giveback Homes, they were inspired to pack their bags and see our building efforts in action.

In a small community in Nicaragua, known as Esteli, Elba used to live in a home — with her three kids — made out of scrap wood and plastic tarps. She supports her children (Nahomi, 9; Cristell, 7; Aaron, 2) by selling food at her daughter’s school where she earns $160 a month.  After paying the landowner $30 every single month for the last five years, she finally owns the land outright.

Nahomi and Cristell both share a love for math, and want to be professors when they’re older. Elba plans to continue building on to her new home because she would like for her kids to have a room of their own. She also plans to start a business selling food out of her new home too.

“All I want is for my kids to only have to worry about studying,” said Elba,

“I want to give them everything they need.”

Our Giveback Homes team members placed about 600 cinder blocks, moved over 15 bags of concrete, and slabbed 1,500 pounds of cement during our time there. We completed the foundation, walls and framing. Then Habitat for Humanity, Nicaragua hired professional masons to complete the roof and windows. This one home was made possible because of our members and their clients.

Giveback Homes members have come together to fund a home for Elba Paramo and her family, and they are taking it a step further by also funding a trip to Nicaragua to meet her and help build her future home. The participants are part of a Real Estate Mastermind Group in Las Vegas, NV. David Morris, Mark Sivek, Susan Brock, Chad Roberts and their honorary Member for this trip, Sarah Roberts. The group will take off on December 7th! Find out exactly why they are putting their passion for giving towards Nicaragua below.

Elba Paramo is a 28 year old, single mother of three children, Jesling (9), Cristhel (6) and Aaron (2.)  She works by selling food out of her mother's home and at her daughter's school, earning approximetley $160 a month for her family.  She has been making payments of $30 a month for five years to purchase the land her new home will be built on and now, thanks to the amazing members of Giveback Homes, she'll finally have a place to call her and her families own.

Elba hopes a new home will not only allow her to grow her small business but to work from her own home, put a roof over her children's heads and give them a better chance at a life.  Something she never thought would be possible as a young single mother.
